Two brass cannons are stolen from the British gun house on Boston Common.

September 16, 1774

The cannons, each of which weighs 500 pounds, are hidden first in the nearby South Writing School then smuggled out of town. One of the British sentries was later heard to remark, “I’ll be damned if these people won’t steal the teeth out of your head when you’re on guard.”
